I was born 1965 in Brooklyn, New York and had the enormous fortune of also being raised there. Since early childhood, I always dabbled in artwork, preferring pencils and pen & ink, but never pursued that skill past the level of a sometime hobby.

After high school I shunned college for the workplace, and was hired by the New York City Transit Authority as a railroad track worker, working the midnight shift in subway tunnels, repairing and maintaining the tracks. A serious hand injury abruptly ended what I had planned on being a long career.

My adventures soon led me to sunny Tampa Bay, Florida where I have resided since. After slaving through a series of menial jobs, I decided to try my hand at tattooing, which in 1989 had not yet to enjoy its current social acceptance and mainstream media exposure. Utilizing my inherent drawing abilities, I became one of the most frequently published tattooists in the world as my handiwork appeared in internationally distributed trade magazines on over 1000 occasions.

A decade and a half passed by, and I began experiencing an odd urge, a "call" if you will, to expand my artistic horizons and paint. Having never even attempted oil painting before, I set out and invested in a set of paints, canvases, and brushes. To my pleasure, even my first paintings began selling at local art shows. Within the year, I sold or gave away all of my tattoo equipment and began a new life as a professional oil painter.

Entirely self taught through humbling trials and subsequent errors, I credit my continued success on my ability to render large, high-impact works of custom art that both demands and commands attention. Boring? Never. Intense? Always.

The galleries on this site are for your viewing enjoyment and serve as evidence of my refusal to be pigeon-holed into a tidy and convenient niche such as "wildlife artist". I am regularly commissioned to create a wide variety of one-of-a-kind paintings, ranging from portraits to the abstract. My customer base spans the continental US, Hawaii, Canada, and the Bahamas.

It has been said that if one baits their hook with their heart, the world will bite. I always strive to put my best foot forward as I labor over my paintings, always making sure they have that unique Kobasky flair. The vibrant works of art available to collectors on this website represent years of undaunted dedication to my craft, personal sacrifice, and countless hours of isolation in my studio in hopes that the world takes notice of this powerful gift bestowed upon me by God...a gift I have been wise enough to accept and continually strive to hone and improve upon.

I hereby invite you to join the family of elite and notable art lovers who proudly and prominently showcase my works in their homes and offices. Clients include members of the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame, NBA, and NFL stars like Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George and NFL MVP Steve McNair.

Fine art is one of the few investments that provide a continuous return of pleasure and conversation for you, your family and guests, and -based on my insistence of using archival materials - the admiration of generations to follow.

Enjoy my website, please. Allow the artwork to speak for itself.

Thank you,
Don Kobasky October 2008
